A new project is born! I had an idea when I was reading an article the other day. It was about an easy way to use your Cannon G12 to shoot time-lapse photography. I was excited about the possibility and even more excited by the process. I went out and got a timer and a small "gorilla-style" tripod - and I was ready.
So then I built and registerd...
I borrowed my neighbors tripod initially and decided to take a few sequences from my balcony. I spent some time during the day looking at different views and trying to decide the best way to proceed as far as frame rate and length of sequences.
Eventually I found that using about a 5 second interval seemed to work the best. As far as length of sequence I believe that you should determine this based on what you are trying to capture. For me about 20 shots or 1:40 is about right for something like an intersection, however it may be a little choppy.
I think that time-lapse photography is most interesting when you can capture some sort of an anomaly, or random distraction.
So now the hard part, what should I start photographing. I think that time-lapse photography is most interesting when you can capture some sort of an anomaly, or random distraction. So I decided to make the focus for now to be on "urban interaction".
So far I think that the best sequence I have made was the sunset from my balcony overlooking west on State St. The total time that the shot sequence lasted was about 50 minutes. I set the timer to :30.
It was funny because the entire day was overcast and then boom, right when I started to shoot the clouds began to speed up drastically, and the sun was apparent just as It set. The rest of the clouds seemed to speed away and the sequence ends check it out right here.
